The department of Bengali, Panskura Banamali College was established in 1961. Getting past its Golden Sixty years with topmost Excellency in 2021. The department has now engaged itself in various academic activities and research works, to fulfill its mission of sustaining the culture and tradition of Medinipur and its neighboring districts.

The department has been working since its inception to spread the light of knowledge among the rural areas. By organizing regularly different seminar, workshops, symposia, by conducting field study, our department is imbuing the students with notions and insights into our own cultural heritage in order to empower them for a social and economic development of the people all around.

The department offers a homely atmosphere where the teachers and students can interact freely, and thereby share their knowledge, feelings and cultural experience to lay a strong foundation for the socio-cultural, religion-communal bond.

Department has a Seminar library for the students to help them by proving authentic books. We have a Folk-Museum where student can visualize different types of manuscripts, arts and handcrafts of rural Bengal etc. Department every year organized field study for the students of UG & PG to develop knowledge and experience Folk-Literature and culture of rural Bengal. By this kind of infrastructure department always try to increase the interest of the students.

১৯৬১ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠার সাথে সাথে যে ক’টি বিভাগ নিয়ে পাঁশকুড়া বনমালী কলেজের যাত্রা শুরু হয় বাংলা বিভাগ তার মধ্যে অন্যতম। দীর্ঘ ৬৪ বছর ধরে সর্বোচ্চ সম্মান ও সাফল্যের সাথে এই বিভাগের জয়যাত্রা বর্তমান রয়েছে। মেদিনীপুর এবং এর পার্শ্ববর্তী জেলাগুলির সংস্কৃতি ও ঐতিহ্যকে ধরে রাখার লক্ষ্যে বিভাগের পাঠক্রমে বিভিন্ন শিক্ষামূলক ও গবেষণামূলক কার্যক্রম সন্নিবেশিত হয়েছে।

প্রতিষ্ঠার পর থেকে এই বিভাগ গ্রামীণ অঞ্চলের ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের মধ্যে জ্ঞানের আলো ছড়িয়ে দেওয়ার কাজ করে আসছে। নিয়মিতভাবে বিভিন্ন সেমিনার, কর্মশালা আয়োজন করে, ক্ষেত্রীয় সমীক্ষার বিভিন্ন কাজ পরিচালনা করে, আমাদের বিভাগ শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে নিজের সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্যের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধাশীল হতে শিখিয়েছে, এবং সাথে সাথে নিজ অঞ্চলের মানুষের সামাজিক ও অর্থনৈতিক উন্নয়নের জন্য চিন্তা করতে শিখিয়েছে।

বিভাগে একটি ঘরোয়া পরিবেশ রয়েছে, যার ফলে শিক্ষক এবং শিক্ষার্থীদের মধ্যে ঘনিষ্ঠ ও আন্তরিক সম্পর্ক গড়ে উঠেছে। শিক্ষার্থীরা অবাধে তাঁদের সমস্যা, অনুভূতি, সাফল্য, ব্যর্থতা বা সাংস্কৃতিক অভিজ্ঞতার কথা ভাগ করে নিতে পারে শিক্ষকদের সঙ্গে।

বিভাগের একটি সেমিনার লাইব্রেরি রয়েছে যেখানে শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য বই দেওয়া হয়ে থাকে। আমাদের একটি লোক-সাংস্কৃতিক সংগ্রহশালা আছে যেখানে শিক্ষার্থীরা গ্রামীণ বাংলার বিভিন্ন ধরণের পাণ্ডুলিপি, শিল্পকলা এবং হস্তশিল্পের সঙ্গে পরিচিত হতে পারে। বিভাগ প্রতি বছর স্নাতক এবং স্নাতকোত্তর স্তরের শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য গ্রামীণ বাংলার লোক-সংস্কৃতি সম্পর্কে জ্ঞান ও অভিজ্ঞতা অর্জনের জন্য ক্ষেত্রীয় সমীক্ষার আয়োজন করে থাকে। এই ধরণের কার্যক্রম পড়াশোনার প্রতি শিক্ষার্থীদের আগ্রহ বৃদ্ধি করে।
